I very much enjoyed reading Portia's account of her journeys as a Gamekeeper. She is certainly a remarkable woman and I loved getting to know her and her troupe of friends. I feel as though I've met a new lifelong pal. I especially enjoyed Babe! And I do feel as though that Raven has found a special place in my own heart. The nice thing about this book is not only the beautiful descriptions but its also that it's written with complete sincerity.BTW, I selected this book because I was trying to understand the life of a gamekeeper, as my great great great... grandfather was the gamekeeper to the King of England. The family tree is buried in a box up in the closet and I'm not certain his first name, but his last name is Davenport.

A fantastic book, well written.
This book is fantastic. Portia does a great job of vividly describing her time as the first female gamekeeper and the people she met during that time. Her candid descriptions and recollections are truly wonderful to read. She doesn't sugar-coat any of the unpleasant sides of gamekeeping, but she also shows the wonderful sides of it as well. Her writing is great and made me want to hop on the next plane over to the UK and experience this myself.
